New Police Leadership Must Drive Reforms Amid Evolving Security Threats – IGP Disu

At a time when Nigeria’s security landscape is becoming increasingly complex, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has charged newly promoted Deputy Inspectors-General of Police (DIGs) to provide strong strategic leadership and help reposition the Nigeria Police Force for modern policing challenges.

Speaking on Monday in Abuja at the decoration ceremony of the newly promoted DIGs, the police chief described their elevation as a recognition of decades of dedication, professionalism, and commitment to national service.

IGP Disu noted that the new rank comes with greater responsibility, stressing that the officers must now contribute to shaping institutional direction, strengthening internal discipline, and driving reforms within the Force.

According to him, the evolving security environment, including organised crime, cyber-enabled threats, and violent criminal networks, demands forward-thinking leadership and operational excellence.

He urged the newly decorated DIGs to leverage their experience in strengthening intelligence-led policing, deepening inter-agency collaboration, and enhancing operational coordination across commands.

“The rank you wear today places you as custodians of the institutional values of the Nigeria Police Force. Your leadership must inspire confidence within the Force and trust among the citizens we are sworn to protect,” the IGP said.

He further emphasised the ongoing efforts to transform the Nigeria Police Force into a more professional, technologically driven, and citizen-focused institution.

The police chief also expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for supporting initiatives aimed at strengthening the operational capacity of the Force, while acknowledging the Police Service Commission for maintaining transparency and professionalism in the promotion process.

Congratulating the newly promoted officers, IGP Disu urged them to lead with honour, integrity, fairness, and unwavering commitment to the rule of law.

He also recognised the families of the officers for their sacrifices and support throughout their careers.
