With qualification on the line and momentum to build, Nigeria’s U-20 women have sent a clear message of intent.

The Falconets produced a spirited performance to defeat FC Robo 2-1 in a friendly match in Ibadan as preparations intensify for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifiers.

The friendly, played as part of the team’s assessment programme, came days after the Falconets arrived in Ibadan on Monday, 27 January 2026, to fine-tune plans for their first-leg encounter against Senegal on Saturday, 7 February 2026, at the Lekan Salami Stadium.

Reacting after the game, Head Coach Moses Aduku expressed satisfaction with the result while acknowledging areas that still need work.

“So far, so good. We won the game, but there are still a few adjustments to be made in the team ahead of Saturday’s game against the Senegalese,” he said.

Aduku, however, was particularly encouraged by the team’s resilience. “The fighting spirit stood out. The way the girls responded to score the winning goal was very encouraging. It showed character, resilience and the determination not to relent in our quest to qualify.”

The victory over one of the Nigeria Women’s Premier League’s top sides underlines the Falconets’ readiness as they push for a positive result in the crucial qualifier.
