Irete Community Holds AGM, Passes Implicit Confidence Vote On I.C.D. U.

As part of the efforts to reposition their community for improved development, security, harmony and cooperation between the various organs of administration in Irete autonomous community of Owerri west LGA, the leadership of the Irete Community Development Union(I.C.D.U.) and the people of the community, on January 3, concluded a two- day Annual General Meeting (AGM) with the community”s town union receiving encomiums based on their performance so far and a vote of implicit confidence passed on them.

The meeting which took place at the community’s Irete Secondary Technical School attracted several leaders of the community such as former Presidents – General, Youth leaders, women leaders, major stakeholders and others.

The motion for implicit confidence on the I.C.D.U team led by Sir Chidume Uzozie was moved by Chief C Y Amako after the annual and financial reports were presented and was overwhelmingly passed by the people present.
Welcoming the people to the AGM, the President – General of the Irete Community Development Union, Sir Chidume Uzozie expressed his gratitude to God for the burning desire in his people to make Irete good for everyone. Uzozie stressed that all his team was focused on was to reposition Irete community for greatness.

In order to fill the vacant position of the Vice President – General 2 which had been vacant after the election that brought in the present regime took place, Mr Ekene Osuoha was confirmed for the office.

The Constitution Review Committee chaired by Barr. Paul Madu presented its detailed recommendations to the people which also attracted much debate.

At the end, success was achieved as the people of Irete community across the globe had the opportunity to contribute to the making of a new constitution for the community through their physical presence and by participating in the proceedings through the live beaming and streaming of all the activities and the streamlining of the roles of the town union president, the traditional ruler and other organs of administration in the community.

Speaking to our reporter at the end of the AGM, former President- General, Prof. Andrew Igwemma expressed his satisfaction with the outcome of the 2026 AGM, describing it as an improvement in Irete as a whole.

Prof Igwemma observed that the tension had been calmed down and everyone was satisfied as it signaled real peace and progress coming into the community.

The former President- General added that if all the amendments were effected the coming community constitution would play a big role in positioning Irete community for greatness as all the organs of administration would know their boundaries and roles in the community.
Chief Chris iAnukam(Omeudo) who virtually anchored the proceedings of the AGM described the outcome of the AGM as “wonderful ” and thanked God for a hitch- free meeting.

Chief Anukam noted that everything went beyond their expectations.
The elated former President- General said it was a great achievement as the community’s constitution was reviewed for the first time since 30 years.
