Christmas Homecoming: Soludo Hails Security Agencies As Ndi Anambra Return Home In Droves

The sights and sounds of a lively Christmas season returned to Anambra this year, as thousands of Ndi Anambra trooped home in what Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo has described as a clear vote of confidence in the State’s improved security architecture.

Governor Soludo attributed the massive festive homecoming to the vigilance and sacrifice of security agencies operating across Anambra, noting that their sustained efforts created an atmosphere of safety that reassured residents and indigenes alike.

Speaking during a special Thanksgiving Mass at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Awka, to mark the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day, the Governor praised officers of the Armed Forces and other security operatives for working tirelessly while others slept, often at great personal risk.

He assured them of the State Government’s continued support within available resources.

While acknowledging lingering security challenges and the painful loss of innocent lives to criminal elements, Soludo welcomed the Federal Government’s designation of kidnappers and violent gangs as terrorists, describing them as a major threat to peace in the South-East.

The Governor also reflected on the historical significance of January 15, the anniversary of the end of the Nigerian Civil War, urging Nigerians to remember fallen heroes who paid the supreme price for unity and peace.

In his sermon, the Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev. Paulinus Ezeokafor, likened military service to baptism, both anchored on selfless service and the protection of life.

He called on leaders and citizens to reject selfishness and embrace shared responsibility for peace and development.

The solemn Mass drew senior government officials, veteran military officers, and families of fallen heroes, standing as a poignant reminder that the peace enjoyed today is built on sacrifice, and must be protected collectively.
