NUJ FCT Chairman Calls For Unity, Ethics and Renewed Professionalism In 2026

As Nigeria’s media space continues to grapple with rapid change and growing public scrutiny, the leadership of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, has charged journalists to enter 2026 with renewed purpose, unity and ethical resolve.

In a New Year message to members, the Chairman of the NUJ FCT Council, Comrade Grace Ike, commended journalists in the Federal Capital Territory for their resilience and professionalism in the face of challenges encountered in the outgoing year.

She noted that despite pressures, members remained steadfast in upholding the core values of journalism and the public trust.

Looking ahead, the NUJ FCT Chair described 2026 as a year of renewed hope and greater responsibility, stressing that journalists remain the conscience of society and key drivers of democracy, accountability and national cohesion.

She emphasised that the Council would intensify efforts to improve members’ welfare, promote professional development and strengthen unity within the union.

Comrade Ike also reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to ethical journalism, urging members to resist misinformation and disinformation by adhering strictly to accuracy, balance, fairness and integrity as enshrined in the profession’s Code of Ethics.

She called for stronger solidarity among journalists, noting that unity and mutual respect remain vital to protecting members’ interests and sustaining excellence in an evolving media landscape.

The NUJ FCT Chairman concluded by wishing members and their families a peaceful, prosperous and fulfilling New Year, expressing confidence that 2026 would bring good health, professional growth and collective success.
