Mentorship As Nation-Building Tool: Idris Makes Case For Strong Institutions

In a country where institutions often outlive individuals but not always their values, Nigeria’s Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has drawn attention to mentorship as the silent force behind enduring national structures.

Speaking in Kaduna at a special gathering organised in his honour by past and present colleagues from his media enterprises, Idris described deliberate and strategic mentorship as a cornerstone for building sustainable institutions.

Reflecting on more than two decades in the media industry, he noted that many professionals who started their careers under his guidance have gone on to occupy influential positions across key sectors of national life.

The Minister aligned this philosophy with the vision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, stressing that mentorship fosters competence, confidence and informed leadership selection.

According to him, intentional nurturing of talent goes beyond organisational growth to become a national asset that promotes efficiency and accountability.

“I am immensely proud of your collective accomplishments,” Idris told the gathering, describing their shared journey as a reflection of the President’s broader vision for Nigeria.

In his response, the Director-General of the Voice of Nigeria, Malam Jibrin Baba Ndace, praised the Minister’s patriotism and enduring commitment to youth empowerment, noting that his true legacy lies in the people he has built rather than the organisations alone.

The event brought together professionals from Bifocal Communications,

The Market Magazine, Blueprint Media Group and WE FM, alongside dignitaries including the Chief Press Secretary to the Kaduna State Governor and the immediate past President of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations.
