INEC Mourns Fallen Cameraman, Calls For Greater Safety Of Media Professionals
The newsroom fell silent with the news, another life lost in the line of duty, another reminder of the risks journalists face beyond the spotlight.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has expressed deep sorrow over the untimely death of Mr Sunday Olatuyi, a cameraman with ADBN Television and a member of the INEC Press Corps, who died in a fatal road accident while returning home.
In a condolence message issued on behalf of the INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan (SAN), the Commission described Olatuyi as a committed professional whose work played a crucial role in documenting the activities of the electoral body.
INEC extended heartfelt condolences to the Olatuyi family, ADBN Television and members of the Press Corps, noting that his death is a painful loss to the media and democratic process.
The Commission also prayed for divine protection for journalists as they continue to serve the nation, often under challenging and risky conditions.
Mr Olatuyi, INEC said, will be remembered for his dedication, professionalism and quiet service behind the camera.
May his soul rest in perfect peace.
