IGP Appoints New POCACOV National Coordinator To Strengthen Preventive Policing
In an era where crime-fighting increasingly depends on trust, innovation, and early intervention, the Nigeria Police Force has taken another step towards people-centred policing with a fresh leadership appointment.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has approved the appointment of Superintendent of Police Orvenonne Ikwen as the new National Coordinator of the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV).
The initiative is the Force’s flagship non-kinetic platform designed to curb cultism, drug abuse, misinformation, and other social vices through community-rooted strategies.
SP Ikwen, a seasoned police officer, development practitioner, and strategic communication expert, brings a rich blend of academic and professional experience to the role. She holds a PhD in Computer Science, specialising in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, and has contributed significantly to research-driven policing, technology-led crime prevention, and behavioural change communication.
She is also a member of both the Institute of Strategic Management of Nigeria and the Institute of Conflict Management & Negotiation Analyst.
In her new assignment, she is expected to scale up POCACOV’s reach across universities, schools, communities, and youth networks, promoting preventive policing and addressing emerging threats such as cyber vulnerabilities and gender-based violence.
The IGP urged her to deepen partnerships with stakeholders, community leaders, educational institutions, and organisations that have supported the campaign over the years, while exploring innovative, citizen-focused solutions to crime prevention.
The appointment takes immediate effect.
