Tinubu’s 2027 Bid Gets Boost As Northern Minority Groups Declare Unwavering Support
With political alignments gradually taking shape ahead of the 2027 general election, minority ethnic groups in Northern Nigeria have openly pledged their support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a move the All Progressives Congress (APC) says signals growing national confidence in the administration’s performance.
APC National Chairman, Prof Nentawe Goshwe Yiltwada, described the group’s endorsement as patriotic and deeply encouraging.
He made the remarks in Abuja when he received the leadership of the Northern Nigeria Minorities Group (NNMG), led by its Convener, Chief Jacob Edi, at the APC National Secretariat.
The chairman was represented by his Chief of Staff, Dr Mustapha Bala Dawaki.
Prof Yiltwada said the minority group’s decision to back President Tinubu’s re-election bid, without any prompting from the party, demonstrates their genuine appreciation of the administration’s efforts to improve governance and national development.
He noted that he had closely followed the activities of the NNMG and commended their commitment to promoting the interests of the APC-led government.
According to him, their voluntary mobilisation shows that the group “means well for Nigeria.”
Earlier, Chief Jacob Edi said the NNMG was formed to support policies and initiatives that uplift the lives of citizens, regardless of ethnicity or region.
He stated that the minority ethnic groups in the North have benefited from President Tinubu’s fairness in project distribution and appointments, citing examples such as:
The establishment of the North Central Development Commission
A Federal University of Applied Sciences in Kachia, Kaduna State
The Nigeria College of Aviation Technology in Kwara State
Numerous road projects
The President’s support for Prof Nentawe’s emergence as APC National Chairman
Chief Edi said the NNMG represents over 200 minority ethnic groups across 19 northern states, adding that the members are determined to ensure President Tinubu wins a second term “with a resounding, unchallengeable victory that will silence doubters and consolidate progress.”
The group presented a symbolic membership card and a letter requesting Prof Yiltwada to serve as its patron.
