Hope Returns To Ihiala As Residents Laud Nigerian Army’s Peace Efforts
When a community long gripped by fear begins to breathe again, it is often a sign that something has fundamentally changed.
For the people of Ihiala Local Government Area in Anambra State, that change has come in the form of restored peace, thanks, they say, to the Nigerian Army.
Residents who fled their homes months ago due to persistent attacks by unknown gunmen are now returning, reopening shops, and rebuilding their lives.
Their gratitude was formally expressed in a letter to the Commander of the 302 Artillery Regiment (General Support), Colonel B. M. Yakubu.
The letter, jointly signed by the Chairman of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Ihiala chapter, and the President General of Mbosi community, Pastor Azuka Innocent Okolie, praised the military for its relentless efforts in stabilising Ihiala and neighbouring communities including Isseke, Mbosi, Azia, Orsumoghu, Lilu, and Ubuluisizo, once notorious hotspots of criminal violence.
Some border towns in Imo State, such as Orsuihiteukwa and Awoidemmili, also benefitted from the improved security presence.
The community leaders commended the troops for their professionalism, discipline, and swift response to distress calls, noting that soldiers consistently confronted threats even under harsh conditions.
Their respectful engagement with civilians, they said, played a crucial role in rebuilding trust.
They also highlighted the synergy between the military and local security outfits like the Agu Neche Mba, which contributed to driving criminal elements out of the area.
Under Col. Yakubu’s watch, the leaders said, previously deserted communities are alive again with human and commercial activity.
They acknowledged the sacrifices of soldiers who lost their lives in the line of duty and urged the commander to convey their appreciation to all serving officers.
They concluded with prayers for divine protection over the troops as they continue safeguarding the region.
