Nigeria Immigration To Launch Single Travel Emergency Passport For Citizens Abroad

In a move aimed at easing the travel woes of Nigerians stranded abroad, the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has unveiled plans to introduce a Single Travel Emergency Passport, a new biometric document designed to facilitate the safe and verifiable return of citizens whose passports are expired, lost, or stolen.

The innovation, according to the NIS, will serve as a one-way travel document that guarantees secure identification and repatriation, ensuring that no Nigerian is left stranded due to passport-related issues.

Officials say the biometric features embedded in the emergency passport will enhance data integrity and align with global travel standards.

The initiative is part of ongoing reforms within the NIS to modernise passport administration and improve the welfare of Nigerians in the diaspora.

When rolled out, the Single Travel Emergency Passport is expected to strengthen Nigeria’s border control system while providing a lifeline for citizens in distress abroad.
