Tension Heightens as NSCDC Deploys 10,000 Operatives For Anambra Governorship Election
By Sunny A. David, Awka
As Anambra prepares for a fiercely contested governorship election on November 8, 2025, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has announced the deployment of over 10,000 operatives across the state, a clear signal of the nation’s determination to ensure peace at the polls.
The Commandant General of the Corps, Prof. Ahmed Audi, approved the deployment, which includes tactical teams drawn from the NSCDC’s national headquarters in Abuja.
The officers will complement the Nigeria Police Force, the lead agency for election security, in safeguarding voters, electoral materials, and officials.
NSCDC spokesperson, Afolabi Babawale, said the move aligns with the resolutions of the Inter-agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES), aimed at delivering a credible and violence-free election.
He disclosed that all intelligence and undercover personnel had been positioned at identified flashpoints, while tactical units would maintain 24-hour patrols.
Operatives deployed to polling stations and collation centres, he said, must strictly adhere to their assignments.
Prof. Audi has also cautioned politicians and their supporters against making inflammatory statements or engaging in actions that could incite violence, warning that the Corps would not tolerate any form of disruption.
Babawale assured that NSCDC operatives would remain neutral and professional, upholding citizens’ fundamental rights while ensuring a secure environment for the electoral process.
