ECOWAS Strengthens Côte d’Ivoire’s Electoral Process with Financial Boost to CEI and Human Rights Council

In a move reaffirming its commitment to promoting democracy and human rights in West Africa, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has provided significant financial support to Côte d’Ivoire’s Independent Electoral Commission (CEI) and the National Human Rights Council (CNDH).

At a ceremony held in Abidjan on 14 October 2025, the ECOWAS Resident Representative in Côte d’Ivoire, Ms Fanta Cissé, officially presented cheques of US$300,000 to the CEI and US$84,000 to the CNDH.

The event was attended by the First Vice-President of the CEI, Mr Sourou Koné, who represented President Ibrahime Coulibaly-Kuibiert; the President of the CNDH, Ms Namizata Sangaré; and Mr Serigne Ka, Acting Head of the ECOWAS Electoral Assistance Division and Head of the Long-Term Election Observation Mission.

The support forms part of the ECOWAS Regional Programme for Electoral Assistance, designed to enhance the credibility, transparency, and inclusiveness of electoral processes across member states.

By strengthening key democratic institutions, ECOWAS continues to demonstrate its resolve to ensure peaceful and credible elections across West Africa.
