DSS Warns Public Against Ex-Staff Member Impersonating Service To Defraud Nigerians
In a fresh security alert, the Department of State Services (DSS) has cautioned Nigerians to beware of one Victor Onyedikachi Godwin, a dismissed staff member allegedly using the agency’s name to defraud unsuspecting citizens.
The Service, in a statement issued on Monday, said the former operative has been involved in unscrupulous activities, impersonating DSS personnel to extort and deceive members of the public under false pretences.
While details of his fraudulent dealings remain under investigation, the DSS clarified that Godwin was dismissed from service and no longer has any affiliation with the agency.
The Service further advised Nigerians to exercise vigilance and verify any claims or requests purportedly linked to DSS officials.
“Members of the public are warned to be cautious and avoid falling victim to the fraudulent schemes of the said individual,” the statement read in part.
The DSS assured that appropriate legal action would be taken against anyone found impersonating its officers or engaging in acts capable of tarnishing the image of the organisation.
As cases of impersonation and cyber fraud continue to rise across the country, the Service urged citizens to report suspicious activities to the nearest DSS office for prompt investigation and action.
