Nigeria Mourns As Renowned Evangelist Rev Dr Uma Ukpai Bows Out Gracefully At 80
In a nation where faith continues to shape destinies, the passing of one of Nigeria’s most celebrated evangelists marks the end of an era.
Rev Dr Uma Ukpai, founder of the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association (UUEA), has transitioned to glory at the age of 80, leaving behind a legacy etched deeply in the hearts of millions.
The news of his passing was confirmed on his official Instagram handle, @Uma_Ukpai, on Monday, announcing that the revered cleric departed this life on October 6, 2025.
In a heartfelt statement titled “With Hearts Full of Gratitude, We Celebrate the Triumphant Homegoing of Rev. Dr Uma Ukpai,” his family expressed gratitude to God for what they described as a life of immense impact and unwavering devotion to the gospel.
“A faithful soldier of the Cross has been called to rest,” the statement read. “For over six decades, he devoted his life to fiery evangelism, dynamic teaching of the Word, and prophetic demonstrations of God’s power.
Through his ministry, he impacted millions of lives and transformed destinies both within Nigeria and across the globe.”
Often described as a “spiritual general,” Rev Dr Ukpai was a non-denominational preacher whose ministry cut across ethnic, religious, and national boundaries.
From crusades that filled stadiums to quiet moments of mentorship, his voice carried a message of faith, healing, and hope.
The family noted that funeral details would be announced in due course but maintained that his race was well run and his crown well earned.
He is survived by his wife, children, and a host of spiritual protégés who continue to carry the torch of his faith-driven mission.
