Foreign Affairs Ministry Mourns Ambassador Stephen Ogidan
Nigeria’s diplomatic community has been thrown into mourning following the death of Ambassador Stephen Ojo Ogidan, a senior diplomat and Director of the West African Affairs Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
He passed away in Abuja on Saturday, 27 September 2025, after a brief illness.
The Ministry described his death as a “profound national loss,” noting his over three decades of dedicated service to Nigeria. Ogidan, who began his career in the Foreign Service in 2007, played a central role in advancing Nigeria’s interests in West Africa and strengthening regional cooperation.
He previously served in Cameroon and Togo, before being conferred with the rank of Ambassador-insitu in 2021.
Known for his intellect, calm demeanour and strategic insight, Ogidan was celebrated as a patriot and a “gentleman officer” whose contributions will be sorely missed.
The Ministry extended condolences to his family, the Government and people of Edo State, and prayed for the peaceful repose of his soul.
