National Gallery Of Art, RATTAWU Forge Partnership To Boost Workers’ Welfare

The National Gallery of Art has pledged stronger collaboration with the Radio, Television, Theatre and Arts Workers’ Union of Nigeria (RATTAWU) to enhance the welfare of workers in the creative and cultural sector.

Director-General of the Gallery, Ahmed Sodangi, gave the assurance during a courtesy visit by the union’s leadership on Tuesday.

He described the partnership as a vital step towards strengthening Nigeria’s creative and cultural economy.

Mr Sodangi explained that the Gallery, under the Ministry of Arts, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy, is mandated to showcase Nigerian art, preserve cultural heritage, and organise exhibitions nationwide.

He congratulated the new RATTAWU leadership on its election and noted that the collaboration would further consolidate the existing cordial relationship.

According to him, the initiative will not only improve staff welfare but also safeguard Nigeria’s rich artistic and cultural legacy.

Responding, RATTAWU National President, Comrade Prince Emeka Kalu, expressed gratitude to the Director-General for his support and called for deeper collaboration.

He highlighted the union’s recent partnership with Rotech Group of Companies, owners of Abuja Airport Garden City, which he said would soon help address housing challenges faced by workers.

Clarifying some internal union matters, Comrade Kalu urged members to avoid unnecessary wrangling, emphasising that chapter dues alone cannot sustain welfare needs.

He encouraged members to work together and explore wider partnerships to create more opportunities for the union.
