NUJ FCT, Rotary Club Partner To Boost Humanitarian Projects, End Polio

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, has entered into a partnership with the Rotary Club of Abuja Maitama to strengthen humanitarian projects, promote ethical leadership, and amplify the fight against polio.

During a courtesy visit to the NUJ FCT Secretariat in Abuja, President of the Rotary Club of Abuja Maitama, Rotarian Maha Longe, said both organisations share core values rooted in service, truth, and integrity.

“Where Rotary seeks to illuminate communities through service projects, journalism seeks to illuminate society through truth and information.

Together, we can achieve far more than we can apart,” Longe said.

She highlighted areas of collaboration including media visibility for Rotary’s humanitarian initiatives, joint seminars on ethics and misinformation, and community development projects.

Longe further urged the media to support Rotary International’s flagship campaign against polio, stressing that although the virus is 99.9% eradicated, the remaining 0.1% remains a global risk.

Responding, the NUJ FCT Chairperson welcomed the partnership, noting that journalism itself is a form of humanitarian service.

She assured that the council would continue to amplify Rotary’s impact in clean water, sanitation, education, and health services.

Both organisations agreed to sustain the collaboration, particularly in public sensitisation and grassroots outreach.
