Conakry Hosts ECOWAS Strategic Retreat On Water Management
Conakry has hosted the ECOWAS Water Resources Management Centre (WRMC) strategic retreat, held from 18 to 21 August 2025, bringing together key regional institutions to strengthen collaboration on sustainable water management.
The meeting, which included the WRMC, the Strategic Planning Directorate (SPME) and the Fouta Djallon Massif Development Programme (PRAI-MFD), reviewed the ECOWAS 2025–2035 Strategic Plan and finalised the 2026–2028 multi-year budget.
Discussions focused on aligning priorities with ECOWAS Vision 2050 and the 2023–2027 strategic framework, while addressing growing water-related challenges across West Africa.
The PRAI-MFD shared its expertise to boost synergy among regional institutions.
The retreat also marked a milestone in the relocation of the WRMC headquarters to Conakry, a decision endorsed by the ECOWAS Heads of State in June 2025
