Gun Drama In Awka: Police Recover AK-47 As Murder Suspect Escapes

Police operatives in Anambra State have recovered a fabricated AK-47 rifle and a magazine during an operation in Awka, as the hunt for a murder suspect intensifies.

The Rapid Response Squad in Awkuzu, acting on credible intelligence, raided an apartment in Umuike Village on 14 August 2025, where the firearm was abandoned.

Police said the discovery is linked to an ongoing investigation into a case of conspiracy, unlawful possession of firearms, and the brutal killing of two men at Okochi Village, Okpuno, in Awka South Local Government Area.

The principal suspect, identified as Nwajagu (other names unknown), was traced to the hideout but managed to escape through the back door on sighting the operatives.

Police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, assured that the Command is intensifying efforts to track down the fleeing suspect, vowing that he will be brought to justice.

The recovered rifle has been taken into custody as evidence.

Further updates are expected as investigations continue.
