Enyimba Crowned Tico/Select Preseason Champions After Beating Rangers At ‘The Cathedral’
Enyimba International have laid down an early marker for the new NPFL season, clinching the 2025 Ifeanyi Ekwueme Tico/Select Preseason Tournament title with a 1–0 victory over fierce rivals Enugu Rangers at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium.
In a tense final befitting the Oriental Derby, new signing Pere Anderson proved the difference, slotting home the winner in the 62nd minute to silence the home crowd.
The triumph marks head coach Stanley Eguma’s first silverware since taking charge of the People’s Elephant, but the gaffer insists the real work is only just beginning.
“It’s good to win because it brings more success, but this is still preseason,” Eguma said. “Our main aim was to assess the players, especially the new ones, and see how they blend with the team. We’re still a work in progress.”
Eguma praised the organisers for providing a competitive platform ahead of the NPFL season, noting that the tournament has helped build momentum.
With bragging rights secured and confidence soaring, Enyimba have sent a clear message to the rest of the league they are gearing up for a serious title challenge.
