Nizamiye Hospital Denies Surgery Delay In Death Of Ex-Senator Kontagora

Nizamiye Hospital, Abuja, has dismissed reports that it refused life-saving surgery for former Senator Ibrahim Musa Kontagora over unpaid medical bills.

The hospital insists no such surgery was ever scheduled and that it was not responsible for the advanced stem cell therapy recommended to his family.

Kontagora, who represented Niger North in the Senate from 2011 to 2015, died after spending more than a week in a coma.

Responding to media claims, the hospital’s spokesperson, Mohammed Abubakar, said the only procedure performed was a shunt to relieve blood clotting.

“There was no surgery planned,” Abubakar explained. “The advice to try stem cell treatment came from a doctor, but we don’t carry out that procedure here.

It’s handled by specialists abroad, and we only connect families with them if they wish.”

He also rejected allegations of a $15,000 part-payment and an outstanding balance, stating that the family still had funds in the patient’s hospital account.

Nizamiye stressed that no advance payment was requested for any in-house procedure after the shunt and challenged anyone with evidence to make it public.
