INEC Sets Stage For Year-Long Voter Registration, Opens 811 Centres Nationwide
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that Nigeria’s Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) will resume on Monday, 18 August 2025, starting with online pre-registration.
In-person registration will follow a week later on 25 August and both options will run concurrently until 30 August 2026.
The exercise will take place in 811 centres across the country, including INEC’s 774 Local Government offices and its 37 State and FCT offices.
Registrations will be conducted from 9am to 3pm, Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays.
To make the process more accessible, INEC is launching an online CVR Live Locator on 17 August, allowing citizens to easily find the nearest registration centre. The locator will be available via https://cvr.inecnigeria.org/locator.
In addition, a comprehensive 38-page document detailing all centre addresses, along with State-specific
Help Desk phone numbers, have been uploaded to INEC’s official website and social media platforms.
According to Sam Olumekun, INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of Information & Voter Education, the Commission will also release videos and other guides next week to walk citizens through the registration process both online and offline.
On political party registration, Olumekun disclosed that the Commission has now received 151 letters of intent from associations seeking recognition as political parties. Eight new submissions were added since the last update in July.
The Commission has begun shortlisting associations that qualify to proceed to the application stage, with further updates expected after the bye-elections in 12 states on Saturday, 16 August.
INEC reiterated its commitment to transparency and citizen engagement throughout the process.
