INEC, NOA To Join Forces For Improved Voter Education Ahead Of 2025 Anambra Poll

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has called for stronger collaboration with the National Orientation Agency (NOA) to deepen voter education, mobilisation, and public engagement across Nigeria.

INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, made the appeal on Wednesday during a courtesy visit by the NOA Director General, Lanre Issa-Onilu, at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.

With the Anambra State Governorship Election fast approaching on 8 November 2025, and the 2027 general election on the horizon, Professor Yakubu stressed the urgent need to drive voter turnout and increase participation among under-represented groups such as youths, women, and Persons with Disabilities (PwDs).

He announced that the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise will begin nationwide in about three weeks, with online pre-registration opening on 18 August and physical registration commencing on 25 August 2025.

“While INEC continues to educate voters, NOA’s strength lies in mobilisation. We believe that working with NOA, political parties, civil society, and the media will help reach a broader segment of Nigerians,” Yakubu said.

He revealed that NOA has been added to the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) and will play a renewed role in the revamped National Inter-Agency Committee on Voter Education and Publicity (NICVEP).

Issa-Onilu in his speech earlier had affirmed NOA’s commitment to the partnership, while calling for greater support for democracy education. “People must understand what democracy means, their responsibilities and rights. It’s a critical part of nation-building, and NOA is ready to lead that conversation.”

The meeting signals renewed momentum in the drive for credible elections and wider civic participation as Nigeria gears up for future polls.
