Anambra Police Boss Bags NUJ’s ‘Best Crime Fighter, Man Of The the Year 2025’ Award
Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has been named Best Crime Fighter, Man of the Year 2025 by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council.
The honour was bestowed during the NUJ’s Press Week held at Transcorp Hilton, Abuja — a gathering that attracted top dignitaries, including Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, and former Nasarawa State Governor, Senator Tanko Almakura.
Themed “Journalism in a Challenging World: Media, Press Freedom, Democracy and Society”, the event spotlighted the evolving role of the media in safeguarding democracy and press freedom.
In an emotional moment, CP Orutugu received his award amidst cheers, thanking journalists for recognising his efforts. He pledged to intensify the fight against crime and maintain the security strides made under his watch.
His selection followed a thorough assessment of his achievements in intelligence-led policing, community safety, and crime reduction across Anambra.
The NUJ noted that CP Orutugu’s leadership has restored public confidence in law enforcement, setting a benchmark for others to follow.
The award not only honours one man’s impact but also reinforces the crucial collaboration between the media and security forces in fostering a safer, more democratic Nigeria.
