WAFCON 2024: House Of Reps Applauds Super Falcons After Blistering 5-0 Win Over Zambia

The House of Representatives Committee on Sports has hailed the Super Falcons for their commanding 5-0 victory over Zambia, which sealed their place in the semi-finals of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The dominant display at Stade Moulay Hassan on Friday night saw Nigeria score three first-half goals through Osinachi Ohale, Esther Okoronkwo, and Chinwendu Ihezuo, before Tosin Demehin and substitute Folashade Ijamilusi added two more after the break to wrap up an emphatic win.

Reacting to the performance, Chairman of the House Committee on Sports, Honourable Kabiru Amadu, praised the team’s composure and quality, describing their journey to the semi-finals without conceding a single goal as a “clear testament to their class.”

“Scoring nine goals in four games and keeping clean sheets throughout shows this team means business. We’re now just two matches away from reclaiming a title that last came home in 2018,” he said.

Hon. Amadu, who represents Gusau/Tsafe Federal Constituency, reassured the Falcons of unwavering national support.

“The Federal Government, the National Assembly, and indeed the entire 230 million Nigerians are solidly behind the Super Falcons.

They have reignited hope and pride in our nation, and we believe they’ll finish the job,” he added.

Nigeria will face the winner of the South Africa versus Senegal clash in the semi-finals, as they continue their quest for a tenth WAFCON crown.
