Anambra 2025: We’re Not After Soludo, Just His Inefficiencies – YPP Deputy Guber Candidate

By Chris Chikelue

As political activities intensify ahead of the 2025 governorship election in Anambra State, the Deputy Governorship candidate of the Young People’s Party (YPP), Uzuegbunam Okagbue, has clarified that their campaign is not aimed at ousting Governor Chukwuma Soludo as a person, but at replacing what he described as the failings of his administration.

Speaking during a courtesy visit by the state chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Dr Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, and his team, Okagbue popularly known as Uzu, said the campaign would remain issue-based, focusing on governance lapses rather than personal attacks.

“Our campaign is not about personal vendettas.

It’s about pointing out the gaps and offering better alternatives. We’re not against the man, we’re against the inefficiencies,” he said during the interaction held at his Umunnachi residence in Dunukofia LGA.

Uzu decried the rising insecurity in the state, which he said has crippled Anambra’s economic and cultural life. “From traditional ceremonies to local markets, people are relocating activities outside the state out of fear.

When vigilantes are now in charge of security, it points to a fundamental flaw in the system,” he noted.

He also called out the press for allegedly failing in its watchdog role, urging journalists to push harder in holding the government accountable. “The media must move beyond praise-singing.

Ask real questions. Demand statistics. Show the people what’s actually happening on the ground,” he charged.

Okagbue promised consistent engagement with the media if elected, pledging to hold biannual briefings to maintain transparency. “You can’t run a government in isolation from the people and the media is the bridge,” he added.

Criticising Governor Soludo’s decision to present his administration’s scorecard to the diaspora, Okagbue said, “The real people who deserve that feedback are right here in Anambra the ones living the reality of his policies.”

He said the YPP plans to assemble a results-driven team that will be held accountable for their assignments, steering clear of excuses and blame games.

With the election drawing closer, Okagbue insists the YPP offers a fresh approach, one anchored on accountability, security, and people-oriented leadership.
