Edo Special Security Squad Nabs Notorious Cult Leaders In Benin City
In a major breakthrough for public safety, the Edo State Government’s Special Security Squad has arrested several suspected cult leaders during a coordinated raid in Benin City.
The operation, which took place on Friday evening, 18th July 2025, saw the arrest of a key cult figure in Iguedaiyi village, Evboutubu area. Weapons and other dangerous materials were recovered from his residence following a thorough search.
The operation is part of the ongoing “Operation Flush Out Kidnappers and Cultists” initiative, launched by Governor Monday Okpebholo to restore peace and security across the state.
The crack team comprising the Military, Police, NSCDC, local vigilantes, hunters, and even repentant cultists also raided multiple hideouts across Egor Local Government Area, guided by intelligence reports provided by previously arrested suspects.
Speaking on the operation’s success, Ameloemen Idemudia Noah, a key member of the squad, stressed that the team’s work is professional, intelligence-led, and free from political interference.
> “We’re getting solid support from the communities who have long complained about the activities of these cult groups. The weapons recovered confirm the seriousness of the threat,” Noah said.
He added that while the primary aim is to tackle cultism and kidnapping, other crimes uncovered in the process will be handed over to the appropriate authorities for investigation.
> “We’re determined to restore calm and protect lives. This administration is committed to flushing out criminal elements, and we will not rest until Edo State is safe for all,” he added.
The arrests signal a clear warning to criminal gangs: under the Okpebholo-led government, there’s no hiding place for lawbreakers.
