INEC Moves Political Party Registration Online, Receives 129 Applications So Far
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that it has so far received 129 applications from associations seeking to become political parties.
In a statement issued after its weekly meeting on Thursday, 10th July 2025, the Commission revealed that seven new applications were submitted within the past week.
To streamline the process, INEC is introducing a new digital registration portal through its Party Financial Reporting and Auditing System (PFRAS).
The portal, currently in its final testing phase, promises a faster and more seamless application process.
INEC noted that once the portal is ready, associations that meet the preliminary criteria will be invited to apply formally. Clear guidelines for online submissions via PFRAS will also be published.
According to the statement signed by the National Commissioner & Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, says the names of the newly applying associations have been uploaded to INEC’s website and other official platforms for public awareness.
