CP Orutugu Leads Security Team To Ogboji Over Gruesome Murder Of 10, One Suspect Arrested

In a swift move to unravel the circumstances surrounding the gruesome murder of ten individuals in Ogboji, Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has led a high-powered joint security investigation team to the scene of the tragedy.

The team, which included operatives from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and other sister agencies, visited the crime scene and confirmed the arrest of one suspect, Sunday Mbanu, who is currently assisting investigators with crucial information.

CP Orutugu stressed that the incident was not a targeted attack against any particular ethnic group or state indigenes but rather a cowardly act carried out by enemies of peace and unity in the state.

Speaking with community stakeholders including the Traditional Prime Minister, the President General of Ogboji, and the son of the landlord where the killings occurred, the police uncovered internal tensions within the Association of Ebonyi State Indigenes in the area. The deadly attack reportedly happened during a meeting of a factional leadership group of the association.

It was further revealed that the group had petitioned the community leadership without involving security agencies. Unfortunately, efforts by the President General to resolve the leadership crisis through Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) methods appear to have failed, leading to the tragic escalation.

The son of the landlord where the meeting took place confirmed that one of the deceased was a tenant and provided investigators with helpful leads.

While extending condolences to the victims’ families and the people of Ebonyi State, the security team also visited the Traditional Ruler of Ekwulobia as part of ongoing engagements.

The Anambra State Police Command has assured the public that it will leave no stone unturned in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
