Tinubu Laying Solid Foundation For Nigeria’s Future … Information Minister

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has acquitted himself creditably in his first two years in office, according to Nigeria’s Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris.

Speaking on Politics Today on Channels Television Wednesday night, Idris said the President has made bold, necessary reforms despite the initial pains, all with the aim of securing long-term economic growth and national stability.

“At the onset of the administration, two very important policy decisions were taken — the unification of the exchange rate and removal of fuel subsidy,” Idris noted. “You don’t expect major surgery without pain, but that pain is gradually easing.”

The Minister said Tinubu’s approach is not driven by short-term optics, but by a vision to “rebuild what wasn’t working” and lay down a solid economic foundation for future generations.

Among the key achievements listed were the student loan scheme with over 300,000 enrollees, a new national minimum wage, and the establishment of the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation all geared toward improving livelihoods.

On infrastructure and human capital development, Idris pointed to federal investments in agriculture, education, digital innovation, healthcare including dialysis centres in all six geopolitical zones and creative industries.

Security also remains a priority. The Minister said Tinubu has shown “decisive leadership” in tackling terrorism and banditry, with clearer coordination among security agencies and a firm commitment to protecting lives and property.

Referring to recent attacks in Benue, Idris said the President’s response was swift and symbolic. “He went there with the full weight of his administration… and gave the marching order: ‘get them out’.”

He added that the government is also deepening diplomatic ties and using technology to bolster border security.

In his words, “There is steady progression toward the prosperity Mr President has promised Nigerians.”
