Fake Facebook Account Impersonating Foreign Affairs Perm Sec Sparks Public Warning

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has raised the alarm over a fake Facebook account falsely bearing the name of its Permanent Secretary, Ambassador Dunoma Umar Ahmed, warning the public to steer clear of scammers behind the impersonation.

In a statement issued on Friday, 6th June, and signed by the Ministry’s Spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, the fraudulent account is said to be spreading false information, promising bogus contract awards, and offering fake rewards in a bid to defraud unsuspecting individuals.

“The Permanent Secretary does not own or operate any social media account,” the Ministry stressed, urging members of the public to ignore any communication from the account, which it described as both malicious and misleading.

The Ministry further revealed that it is working closely with security agencies and Meta, Facebook’s parent company, to trace and dismantle the fake profile.

It reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, integrity, and the safety of citizens, urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity linked to the impersonation.
