Prof. Pate Describes Dr. Ihekweazu’s WHO Appointment As Timely, Transformative
Nigeria’s Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, has congratulated Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu on his appointment as Executive Director of the World Health Organization’s Health Emergencies Programme.
Dr. Ihekweazu, a global expert in epidemic intelligence and health security, takes over from Dr. Mike Ryan at a critical time for global public health.
Describing the appointment as “the right choice at the right time,” Prof. Pate praised Dr. Ihekweazu’s leadership qualities, calling him “an exceptional leader and a loyal team player” whose tenure will boost emergency preparedness and global health resilience.
“The world needs bold, trusted and compassionate leadership,” he said. “Dr. Ihekweazu embodies all of this and more. The WHO has made an excellent choice.” The Minister said.
