CISLAC Warns National Assembly Against State Of Emergency In Rivers

The Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC) has urged the National Assembly to reject any plan to impose a State of Emergency in Rivers State, describing it as unconstitutional and politically driven.

In a statement signed by Executive Director Auwal Ibrahim Musa (Rafsanjani), CISLAC accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of fueling the state’s political crisis by allegedly backing former Governor and current FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.

The group said this interference is undermining governance in Rivers and promoting “political godfatherism.”

CISLAC stressed that conditions for a State of Emergency under Section 305 of the Constitution have not been met, as normalcy prevails in the state with no breakdown of law and order.

The organisation warned that the move could set a dangerous precedent for other states and called on lawmakers to defend Nigeria’s democracy.

CISLAC also raised alarm over similar threats in Kano and Osun states, urging Nigerians and the Nigeria Governors’ Forum to resist any attempt to erode constitutional governance.

“Nigeria’s democracy is at stake,” Rafsanjani cautioned, maintaining that civil society would stand firm against any abuse of executive power.
