The Special Citizens Leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC South East chapter,Dr. Stanley Chinedu Nwachukwu has praised Federal Government of Nigeria for ensuring compulsory appointment of Special Advisers on Disability Matters within the 774 Local Governments Administration of the Federation.
Speaking to newsmen in Owerri, the capital city of Imo State on Tuesday 4th March,2025,Dr. Nwachukwu applauded the Federal Government for directing Federal Accounts Allocation Committee,FAAC to henceforth pay salaries of the Local Governments
designated positions which include:
1. Chairman
2. Deputy Chairman
3. Secretary
4. Supervisory Councillor for Health
5. Supervisory Councillor for Agriculture
6. Supervisory Councillor for Education/Social Services
7. Supervisory Councillor for Works
8. Statutory Adviser for People with Disability, Humanitarian Service & Traditional Institutions
9. Statutory Adviser for Security
10. Statutory Adviser for Youth Development & Community Work.
However, official sources revealed that all salaries for these appointees will be paid directly from Abuja under the FAAC system, ensuring uniformity and financial accountability in local government administration.
Meanwhile, the Imo-born APC South East Special Citizens Leader gave a 21-day ultimatum to the Local Governments Chairmen of the Zone to announce appointments of the Special Advisers on Disability Matters as well as calling on the rest of the geopolitical zones to do so hence FAAC is currently in charge of paying their salaries.
He expressed joy and thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for remembering persons with disabilities, adding that his people can now experience sense of belonging at the grassroots.
“This move complements the National Disability Law. The law forbids discrimination against people living with disabilities. It has been domesticated in so many states.
I’m happy that Imo State House of Assembly has passed the bill into law,and it is currently waiting for governor ‘s assent.
Above all, we are thanking the Executive Governor of Imo State, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma for his steadfast in constructing quality roads and other infrastructural developments in Imo State. Look at the Flyover at Control Post, Owerri,Orlu , Okigwe and many other roads geared towards improving our economy and ensuring safety of commuters.
We are happy with our dear Governor, and therefore pleading that he should as matter of urgency ascent to the disability law”,he pleaded.
