A well-trained police force is the backbone of any secure society.

In recognition of this, the Inspector-General of Police, Dr. Kayode Egbetokun, took decisive steps to ensure that police training in Nigeria meets global standards.

On March 5, 2025, the IGP met with the Commandants of Nigeria’s police training institutions at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, urging them to uphold discipline and best practices.

This engagement is part of a broader effort to reform and modernise police training nationwide.

The meeting followed the just-concluded Conference of Commandants, held from March 3-5 at the National Institute for Police Studies, Abuja.

The conference, supported by the UNDP, GS Foundation, and the German Embassy, focused on enhancing police training to address contemporary security challenges.

Discussions covered curriculum development, police reforms, recruitment strategies, and emerging threats such as cybercrime and terrorism.

With the recent passage of the Nigeria Police Institution Establishment Bill, the Force is pushing for a more professional and responsive police system and the IGP’s renewed focus on training excellence signals a commitment to building a police force that is well-equipped to serve and protect in an evolving security landscape.
