The leadership tussle in the Lagos State House of Assembly has escalated as former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa takes legal action to reclaim his position.
Obasa, who was removed from office on January 13, 2025, has filed a lawsuit at the Lagos State High Court in Ikeja, seeking his immediate reinstatement.
Court documents reveal that Obasa argues his removal was unconstitutional.
The lawsuit, filed on February 14, 2025, names the current Speaker, Lasbat Mojisola Meranda, and the Lagos State House of Assembly as defendants.
Sources indicate that political negotiations to resolve the crisis have failed, despite interventions from key figures in Lagos and Abuja.
Some lawmakers reportedly fear that reinstating Obasa could spark retaliatory actions against those who backed his removal.
With the judiciary now set to decide the fate of the Assembly’s leadership, the case is poised to have major implications for Lagos’ legislative stability.
