The Nigeria Police Force in a major crackdown on illegal arms trade, has arrested five suspects involved in trans-border gunrunning.

The suspects—Adamu Noma, Matthew Audu, Andrew Poyi, Aminu Sani, and Aminu Talha—were apprehended on November 18, 2024, by operatives of the Force Intelligence Bureau’s Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT).

A search of the suspects led to the recovery of 10 locally fabricated AK-47 rifles, five Israeli AK-47 rifles, one revolver pistol, a pump-action rifle, 20 rounds of AK-47 ammunition, and a welding machine used for fabricating firearms.

This operation shows the police’s intensified efforts to curb criminal activities and enhance national security under the leadership of Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun.

The IGP has reiterated his directive to tactical units to eliminate illegal arms and ammunition while dismantling networks of illicit weapon manufacturers.

This success reflects the unwavering commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to safeguard lives and maintain peace across the country.
