A potential tragedy was averted in the heart of Maiduguri on November 22, 2024, thanks to the swift action of the Nigeria Police Force Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit (EOD-CBRN).

Following reports from vigilant residents, the team swung into action, recovering dangerous unexploded military ordnances scattered across the city.

In the Dala Kacchallah area, six projectiles and a mortar bomb were found dangerously close to an uncompleted building, likely washed ashore by recent flooding. Similarly, a military hand grenade lay abandoned on the Gwange Riverbank. Each of these deadly devices posed a serious threat to unsuspecting residents.

With precision and professionalism, the EOD-CBRN team safely neutralised the explosives, ensuring no lives were lost and no property damaged. As a precaution, they also conducted risk awareness campaigns to educate locals on recognising and avoiding suspicious objects.

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, praised the unit’s bravery and efficiency, noting their consistent efforts in preventing calamities in Borno State.

He reaffirmed the Force’s dedication to public safety and urged citizens to promptly report any suspicious findings.

A statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, applauded the vigilance of the community and the expertise of the police, which has left Maiduguri secured, standing as a testament to the power of collaboration in ensuring safety.
