The Federal Government of Nigeria has commended the Republic of Ghana for its commendable gesture of rebuilding and formally handing over a property belonging to the High Commission of Nigeria in Accra.

This remarkable event took place on November 20, 2024, marking a new chapter in the diplomatic relations between the two nations.

The property, a block of four-bedroom flats, had been demolished in 2020 under controversial circumstances, sparking strong condemnation from the Nigerian government but following extensive high-level discussions, Ghana’s government pledged to rebuild the property, a promise they have now fulfilled.

The symbolic handover was conducted by Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Shirley Ayorkor Botchway. Representing Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the ceremony was the Director of the Foreign Service Academy, Lagos, Ambassador Chimezie Ogu,

In a statement signed by the Acting Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, the Nigerian government lauded the reconstruction saying it is a testament to the enduring spirit of cooperation and mutual respect that underpins the relationship between the two West African nations.

“The rebuilt property is more than just a structure—it is a symbol of Ghana’s commitment to fostering stronger ties with Nigeria,” the Ministry noted.

This development reflects the resilience and collaborative spirit of Nigeria and Ghana, who continue to prioritize diplomacy and mutual understanding in addressing challenges.

The Federal Government of Nigeria expressed hope that this milestone would further solidify the friendship and partnership between the two nations, serving as a model of conflict resolution and neighborly relations in the African continent.
