Amidst the socioeconomic challenges confronting Nigeria, Dr. Chidi Okoroafor, a political scientist and senior lecturer at Evangel University, Enugu state has emphasized the critical role of political stability in fostering a secure environment essential for sustainable development.
Dr. Okoroafor made this assertion during the South East conference of the Nigerian Political Science Association, held in Owerri.
In his presentation, he highlighted that political instability undermines security, thereby hindering the sustainability of development initiatives.
“Political stability and security are crucial for the socio-economic development of any nation. Countries facing political turmoil and insecurity are likely to experience significant setbacks in achieving sustainable growth,” he said.
Dr. Okoroafor explained that political stability creates a predictable and conducive environment for economic activities, while security safeguards citizens and resources, enabling uninterrupted progress. He noted that sustainable development, combined with effective governance, economic stability, and social cohesion, plays a pivotal role in national growth.
“Political stability and security must be complemented by strong institutions, inclusive policies, and environmental sustainability to achieve meaningful development,” he added.

Political Stability and Security thereby Strengthening governance, institutions, and public administration.
Anti-Corruption Measures, Promoting transparency and accountability.
Infrastructure Development which is Investing in healthcare, education, and economic diversification.
Fostering social cohesion, reducing disparities, and strengthening social safety nets.
Speaking with journalists, Dr. Okoroafor stressed the urgent need for transformative measures to address Nigeria’s socioeconomic challenges. He advocated for an actionable plan and the inclusion of experts in policymaking to provide practical solutions.
He also expressed concern over how insecurity has deterred investors, calling for the creation of an enabling environment to attract investments and promote development.
