The Director General, Rejuvenation Campaign Council, the campaign organisation of Mr Dele Atunbi for NUJ President, Malam Ado Adamu Also, has urged delegates to the scheduled 8th Triennial Delegates Conference in Owerri, the Imo State capital, to put the presidential candidates in the race on a scale of integrity and competence while making their choice.
Adamu Also emphasised that the NUJ, as a professional body with a constitutional role to serve as a watch dog of the society, must not be found electing leaders on the premise of primordial sentiments.
Adamu Also, who is the Vice Chairman of the Taraba State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), stressed that the Union is at a cross road and in dire critical situation, hence the need to elect a transformational leader with the capacity to proffer solutions to all the identified problems affecting the Union.
The Rejuvenation Campaign Council DG who stated these in a statement issued on Monday in Abuja, where he appealed to journalists particularly delegates to critically assess and re-assess all the presidential candidates who will be the driver of the Central Working Committee and National Secretariat in the interest of growth and overall development of the NUJ as against promoting any form of sentiment that is not in the interest of the union.
In the words of Adamu Also; “The NUJ is not a political party that must have a deceitful lineup of candidates vying for various positions of the union under the guise of a team.
“We must lay more emphasis on competence, integrity, innovation and ability to run an all-inclusive policy of every individual in the race.
“Competent leaders have the skills and experience to know what needs to be done. They have walked the talk, or at least recognise the path.
“They understand the challenges the people are facing because they have made sure they do so through engagement, observation and learning.
“All these are what many journalists craving for the desired and needed change realised in Dele Atunbi. Enough of the deceit by power grabbers whose only interest is occupying offices but to serve. We must be on the lookout for the best candidate and that candidate if DELE ATUMBI,” Adamu Also stressed.
While canvasing support and votes for his presidential candidate, Dele Atubi, the DG equally enjoined delegates to vote by allowing their conscience guide them in the interest of the union and journalism practice in the country.
