The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, has issued a stern warning against police corruption, following a recent case of alleged extortion involving officers from Zone 16 in Yenagoa.

Four officers, accused of extorting ten million naira from a group of young Nigerians, have been detained and are facing disciplinary action.

The swift recovery of the funds, thanks to the new Assistant Inspector-General, underscores the IGP’s zero-tolerance stance on corruption.

IGP Egbetokun reassured Nigerians that the force is committed to upholding accountability and investigating any claims of misconduct, regardless of rank.

He has mandated stringent consequences for any officer found guilty of abuse, aiming to restore public trust and ensure justice.

In addition to this anti-corruption push, the IGP announced a rescheduled workshop on child protection and care, set for Monday, November 11, 2024.

The training will equip police units with skills to sensitively handle cases involving children, fostering a child-friendly approach within the force.

With his focus on integrity, professionalism, and transparency, IGP Egbetokun is working to reshape the Nigeria Police Force into an institution that Nigerians can trust.

A statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi encouraged the he public to report any misconduct through official police channels and social media platforms.
