The European Union has allocated €5.4 million in humanitarian aid to support communities devastated by floods in Chad, Niger, Nigeria, Cameroon, Mali, and Burkina Faso.
Over 4.4 million people have been affected, with homes, schools, water systems, and farmland destroyed.
The aid will address urgent needs such as food, shelter, clean water, and sanitation to prevent the spread of waterborne diseases.
Funds are distributed as follows: Chad (€1M), Niger (€1.35M), Nigeria (€1.1M), Mali (€1M), Cameroon (€650K), and Burkina Faso (€300K).
This is in addition to €232 million already provided this year for ongoing crises.
EU Commissioner, Janez Lenarčič emphasised the unprecedented impact of floods in the region, displacing millions and causing widespread suffering, with more heavy rainfall expected.
