As economic challenges continue to deepen and the cost of living soars, finding creative survival strategies and alternative sources of income has become crucial.

This pressing need formed the core of discussions at the September Congress of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) in the FCT chapter.

During the Congress, the Vice Chairman of the Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Grace Ike, , emphasised the importance of women journalists diversifying their income streams beyond traditional journalism.

Speaking on the topic, Using Technology for Women Empowerment Amidst Economic Challenges, she highlighted how technology can revolutionise business promotion.

Ike pointed out that many products and services fail to reach their target audiences due to lack of technological know-how and effective online visibility.

Adding to the conversation, founder of Hope Raisers Global Foundation, Vivian David Imeh, discussed how technology can accelerate journalism and open doors to new income opportunities.

She particularly emphasised the power of LinkedIn and other social media platforms in expanding one’s professional reach. “Money follows value,” she noted, “and it is the value you offer that generates the income you desire.”

The event concluded with a significant partnership announcement: Imeh’s foundation will collaborate with NAWOJ FCT to provide digital skills training for members.

This initiative will kick off with 10 participants, receiving intensive training for one month—empowering women journalists to thrive in an increasingly digital world.
