The Federal Government, through the Rural Electrification Agency, says it will provide sustainable power supply through the Energizing Education Programme, EEP to 37 Federal Universities and seven Teaching Hospitals across the country.

It is based on this that the Rural Electrification Agency, came calling on the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, TETFUND, to assist it to address challenges to the progress of the Energizing Education Programme, EEP.

According to the Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency, Mr. Salihijo Ahmad who made the appeal in Abuja during a meeting with the Executive Secretary of TETFUND, the programme is yet to commence in thirteen universities, saying that funding is a major hindrance to the project.

Mr. Ahmad, implored TETFUND to assist with further guidance, additional resources as well and how they can continue to scale-up the programme, as infrastructure is not just about classrooms and lecture theatres.

He lamented that with the current situation in the country, it has become more apparent that there are some decentralized power systems that are very important for universities.

On his part, the Executive Secretary, TETFUND, Mr. Sunny Echono noted that priority should be accorded the initiative as constant power supply is critical to the development of any learning environment.

Mr. Echono said the organisation would leverage on the financial facilities at its disposal and mobilize additional funds to ensure the success of the project, as according to him, no objectives set in the education sphere will be achieved if constant electricity is not guaranteed on the campuses.
