FG Reiterates Commitment To Achieving SDG 2030 In Education

The Federal Government of Nigeria says as a signatory to the Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs 2030 and African Union, AU Agenda 2060, it will continue to demonstrate its commitment to achieving the goals through leadership and ownership of the implementation process.

The Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mammam, while declaring open the annual Education conference, in Abuja, said the Education sector is one of the line sectors that ensure that planning and budgeting in the country are within the framework of the SDGs.

Professor Mamman, said the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu led administration is determined to initiate a new creative means of funding tertiary education by granting universities the autonomy to explore new sources of financing their activities.

He said they at the ministry of education are developing a template to define a strategic roadmap for the education sector which when unfolded, all stakeholders will have a responsibility to implement.

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, David Adejo said the Annual Education Conference was conceived by the Federal Ministry of Education, in collaboration, with its development partners and other stakeholders as a means of constantly renewing the country’s efforts at ensuring improved access to high quality education within a strengthened delivery system.

The Permanent Secretary who was represented by the Director ICT, Mr Abubakar Isa, noted that NAEC would help participants share ideas on what is working well and needs strengthening, what is not working well or not working at all to change direction and most importantly agree on responsibility of every stakeholder in improving what is working well and addressing identified challenges.
