The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, says it needs diverse contributions from stakeholders to enable it identify areas of strengths and weaknesses in order to improve in the forthcoming off-cycle governorship elections in some states of the country.

For this, the commission said it will engage actively with different stakeholders in the next two weeks to communicate effectively the Commission’s planned activities for the success of the forthcoming off-cycle elections.
The Chairman of INEC, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, who stated this at the post-election review meeting with electoral officers and transporters in Abuja said interacting with critical electoral officials, particularly on a wide range of issues will enhance preparations for the three off-cycle Governorship elections as they are determined to uphold the commission’s integrity for impactful democracy
The Chairman, Planning, Monitoring and Strategic Committee (PMSC), Professor Rhoda Gumus, had said the decision to organise the meeting became imperative after the successful conduct of the 2023 general elections.

She said the meeting would undertake a comprehensive post-election review to learn critical lessons for future elections and attend to the questions of “how far and how well”.
