FG Charges Retirees To Be Champions Of National Building

Federal Government of Nigeria has asked retirees to see their retirement as an opportunity to provide more inputs into the development issues of the country

 

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Geoffrey Onyeama, who made this call during a valedictory ceremony in honour of the 110 staff of the Ministry that retired between 2019 and 2022 in Abuja, urged them to take advantage of any opportunity for national assignment even in retirement.

 

The Minister, appreciated the retired staff for their contribution to national development while in service adding that theirs was a selfless service as they spent most of their career life oversees, hence they deserve to be honoured.

He explained that based on his interaction with other diplomats across the globe, Nigerian foreign service officials have exhibited capacity and good knowledge of their profession which made the country more visible amongst the community of nations.

 

Mr. Onyeama paid glowing tributes to those who passed on after retirement and urged those still in service to work hard and be professional while discharging their duties.

He said in his six years working as the Minister of Foreign Affairs, he had met with some of the retirees and acknowledged their rich knowledge of their professional background.

 

The Minister said that in spite of the onerous challenges, the ministry is still delivering real dividends at the international level.

 

On the other hand, the Director Overseeing the Office of the Permanent Secretary, DOOPS in the ministry, Ambassador Janet Olise commended the retirees for their dedication, hardwork, perseverance, and selflessness.

According to her, the nation has been better with the services the retirees provides and for these reasons and more that they deserve to be honoured.

 

One of the retirees, a former Director in the Ministry, Ambassador Faruk Danjuma, in a vote of thanks appreciated the Minister and the Ministry for honouring them saying that their hardwork and contribution to service was being recognised.
