Senate Organises Public Hearing On National Institute For Educational Planning and Administration Establishment Bill

The Senate Committee on Education has begun a public hearing for all relevant stakeholders for a bill to back up the establishment of the National Institute for Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA), Ondo, Ondo State.
The Institute, was established 30 years ago by the Federal Ministry of Education in collaboration with UNESCO/International Institute for Educational Planning(IIEP) as a Staff College for Planners and Managers in the Nigeria education sector and West African sub-region without a legal backing.
Declaring the public hearing open, the Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, tagged it an opportunity for the committee to ensure that the institute is standardised for professional possibility, promising that all necessary support will be provided for the NIEPA, to ensure the smooth running of the institute.
The chairman of the Senate Committee on Education(Basic and Secondary), Senator Ibrahim Gaidam, in his welcome address, said the National Institute for Educational Planning and Administration (Establishment) Bill 2022 seeks to give legal backing to the already functioning institution.
Senator Gaidam explained that the institute was established in 1992 with three-fold mandate which was intended to move forward the professionalization of educational planning and administration in the country.
Earlier, the sponsor of the Bill, Senator Ayo Akinyelure, had described as disheartening that despite the institute’s enormous potential and its long years of existence and operations, it does not have an enabling law to regulate its activities to strengthen and entrench the core mandates.
